Rheumatology Expert Witness

Rheumatology expert witnesses evaluate the diagnosis and management of autoimmune and inflammatory conditions including rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, vasculitis, spondyloarthropathies, and gout. They interpret serologic panels, inflammatory markers, joint imaging, and biopsy findings to determine whether the diagnostic workup and treatment escalation met current ACR and EULAR guidelines for the condition at issue.

Cases commonly requiring rheumatology expertise include delayed diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis resulting in irreversible joint destruction, biologic therapy complications including infection and malignancy risk, lupus nephritis management and renal outcomes, missed giant cell arteritis leading to vision loss, and disability evaluations where the degree of functional impairment from inflammatory disease is disputed. These cases often hinge on whether treatment was escalated appropriately given the disease activity documented in the record.
